DIY Coffee Filter Flowers Step-by-Step Instructions
How do you make coffee filter flowers? Well, it’s actually easy! Just follow this guide and you’ll create beautiful DIY paper flowers in no time.
Step 1: Preparing the coffee filters
Take one coffee filter and fold it in half four times.
Once it’s folded, draw the pattern. See the photo below for reference. I don’t recommend stacking the coffee filters, as it can be really hard to fold and cut. You need 12 pieces for one flower.
Step 2: Shaping the petals
Cut the pattern using a pair of sharp scissors, then carefully unfold.
Step 3: Coloring the coffee filters
Start by diluting the colors. Once the colors are ready, paint the outer part of the coffee filter with a light color, then paint the tips with a dark color to create an ombre effect.
You can also paint the coffee filters using an eye dropper tool, but a paintbrush gives you more control. Once done painting, let it dry.
Step 4: Making the stem
Take three floral wires and carefully twist their top ends together to secure them. Once joined, gently bend to create a hook.
Step 5: Assembling the hydrangea paper flower
Get one of the dried coffee filters and stick the wires straight into the center. Pull the paper toward the other end. Add glue, then bring the sides toward the center.
Repeat for the remaining coffee filters.
Step 6: Covering the stem
Cover the floral wires with floral tape. Begin by gluing the end of the floral tape to the bottom of the flower, then wrap it around the wire until you reach the other end.
Creative Ideas and Variations
- Colors. Think about all the different colors real hydrangea flowers come in – those deep blues, dreamy lavenders, soft pinks, and crisp whites. You can definitely recreate all of that!
- Sizes. Make the flower head as big of as delicate you like. Variation of sizes create visual interest and depth.
- Centerpiece. Using a floral foam create a flower arrangement and place on your coffee table for a beautiful centerpiece.
- Wreath. Make a beautiful hydrangea wreath you can hang on your door.
- Bouquet. Make a gorgeous coffee filter flower bouquet that you can use as a decoration or handmade gift to your loved ones.
