Materials:

  • Paper towel or toilet roll
  • Red and white worsted weight yarn
  • 6 and 7 inches hard surface (book or notepad)
  • A pair of scissors
  • 12″ twine
  • Embroidery needle
  • Hot glue
  • Cotton balls
  • Wooden bead

Directions:

Step 1

Take a 6 inches hard surface and wrap a red yarn around it 20 times, cut in the middle and repeat the process with the white yarn. To create the gnome hat, cut the paper roll into 2-inch segments, take 1 roll then insert a folded red string under, insert the two ends of the string on its loop, pull to knot the end. Repeat the process around the roll, alternating the colors. Flatten and comb the strings, gather all the strings, and push to the other side, insert a cotton ball under it to fill the crown, tie a 10 inches string at the top. Trim the ends of the strings to create a little pom-pom.

Step 2

Take the twine and tie a knot while inserting the other end on the embroidery needle. Thread the twine through the center of the hat then send it back through to create a small loop at the top. Tie a knot at the end to secure. For the gnome’s beard, wrap a white yarn on a 7 inches hard surface 50 times, find the center and tie yarn around it several times to secure. Cut through each loop of both ends, grab all the yarn to expose the middle top part, put hot glue on it then attach to the hat, shape the yarn into a mustache and beard by trimming excess ends. Glue the wooden bead in the middle of the beard and right under the hat.
