Coasters are so convenient, but hard to find the perfect kinds when you’re picky. This DIY sewing project by eHow on YouTube takes less than 5 minutes to make a fall fabric leaf coaster. This is super festive for the fall, and it adds a nice touch of decor as a placement for cups. I think this specific tutorial is cute because it plays off of the multicolored leaves of Fall. It resembles Fall leaves, and  I love the vibrant felt coasters that dress up end tables and coffee tables. Plus, it helps you embrace Autumn in style.

Supplies:

  • Thick craft felt in various autumnal colors
  • Thick paper and pencil to create a pattern piece
  • Disappearing ink pen
  • Sharp scissors
  • Contrasting thread
  • Sewing Machine

Directions:

First, draw and cut out the desired leaf shape. Place the pattern onto two layers of felt and trace around it. Use a pair of scissors to cut out the leaf design through both layers of felt.

Next, sew the two pieces of felt together by sewing a straight stitch all around the outside edge. Be sure to backstitch the ends. Then, straight stitch up the center of the leaf. Backstitch both ends. Continue to watch DIY sewing project by eHow on YouTube for the full instructions and details.

I would love to make these colorful fall fabric coasters for the house and make them as gifts. They’re so simple, easy, and inexpensive. You can make a dozen of these in one sitting with under 10-15 minutes. I think this would be cool to make and this is a type of project that you can do in bulk too. Also, I love the earthy colors that she chooses in the tutorial, and I would love to replicate this exact fall fabric coaster.
