DIY Fabric Tote Bag From Scraps

This is a great sewing project if you have a bunch of fabric scraps leftover from other projects. I love sewing projects that use fabric scraps because it’s a great way to not waste them. EasyToSew on YouTube gives the measurements and tips on the screen of the tutorial, which helps out a lot.  I think this quilted tote fabric bag is fun with all of the different patterns. It’s so satisfying to see the blend of fabric designs together because some of the fabrics that some people may have laying around are super cool. The tutorial is clear and straight forward, and this is something my mom needs to make because she has a bunch of fabric that she doesn’t use anymore.

Supplies:

• 2 fabric pieces (15 1/2″ x 2 1/4″)
• 20 fabric pieces (2″ x 6 1/2″)
• 2 fabric pieces (15 1/2″ x 2 1/2″)
• fabric scraps and pieces
• interfacing
• snap closure push buttons
• iron
• sewing machine
• scissors
• fabric pins
• measuring tape
• hammer

Directions:

First, prep your fabric pieces and scraps by cutting out and using the right measurements. Then, pin each panel piece fabric with right side together, stitch 1/4″ seam allowance from cut edge to stitching line. Continue to watch EasyToSew tutorial on YouTube for full instructions and details.

Next, hammer on the snap-on closure button onto the purse once everything is stitched together.

This would be a great gift idea for any occasion. It can be used as a baby diapers bag, shopping bag, or a casual everyday bag. This can be useful to pack some of your quilting or sewing materials to use for on the go. Also, the tote bag can be used reversible and there are pockets that are convenient. It’s a kid-friendly bag, and I believe it’s a fun bag too because of the fabric scraps and there are many usages from this tote bag.
