Are you looking for a way to spice up your backyard for the warm months while still adding functional elements? Look no further. Blake Mcfarland from BM Sculptures created an awesome tutorial for a cinderblock bench that requires no power tools! That’s right, all it takes is a quick hardware store trip and some manual labor. As an added bonus, he will teach you how to create cushions for the bench as well. My patio looks amazing after adding these cinder block benches. Best of all, it didn’t take much time to build! These benches are perfect for all your summer bonfires, parties, or even just reading a book while relaxing outside. You could even do this project as an upcycle if you already have similar materials lying around. I paired my couch with patchwork pillows, and quilted pinwheel pillows to create a relaxing seating area.

Materials Needed For This Project:

  • Cinderblocks
  • 8 ft. 4×4’s
  • Paint
  • Construction Adhesive
  • Caulking Gun
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint Soller
  • Wood Stain
  • Wood Sealant

Get the exact supplies list from the description of BM Sculptures youtube Video, linked down below.

Step One

Blake says, “Get to work smoothing out those edges.” Sand the wood down till the edges are smooth enough to sit on.

Step Two

Stain and seal the wood. After you let the wood dry, wipe off all the excess stain and seal the wood with your polyurethane coating. Blake says to “let the stain soak into the wood for about 15 minutes.”

Step Three

Get ready to assemble. You will have to test fit the cinderblocks to make sure they fit together in the best way possible.

Since I lover experiments, I’ve alwaysnloved to create, paint, as well as cook and style food. I feel in love with DIY as soon as I discovered it and could not have been more excited when I learned I could share projects with people around the world. Taking photos is a passion of mine, as is design and painting with oils. I love holidays and celebrations, crafting cute little gifts and serving up at least one new recipe I am excited about.
