A few days ago, I created a bunch of different DIY ornaments that I found online. But I still feel like something’s missing, some cute little gnomes. I wanted to make a few but as usual, I’m looking for something easy, quick, and cheap. If possible, the kind of DIY wherein I can use or repurpose old materials. After a while of browsing, I found this talented gem on YouTube, Patti J. Good created this tutorial where you can make a gnome out of 1 sock, what’s even better is that you can make these in just a few minutes. If you’re still not amazed then you better see this tutorial for yourself.
Step 1
For the body of the gnome, cut the socks across the heel evenly, take the lower half and fill it with weighted beads, rice, or beans. You can adjust its weight and body size depending on your preference. Add and fill it with poly then tie the ends with a string before shutting securely with hot glue. For the hat of the gnome, take the upper part of the sock, flip it inside out and tie the ends of the side without the fur lining. Flip the sock again then attach the pompom at the top.

Step 2
Cut the faux fur in a 4¼ x 3 size and curve, then brush the fur nicely, this will be the gnome’s beard. Attach the beard about half an inch down from the top edge of the body. Insert the gnome’s hat and fit it nicely, then attach the felt ball nose with hot glue. Pull the hat a bit so that the nose is slightly covered with the hat. Glue around the body to secure everything in place.
