Materials:

  • fabric scraps
  • scissors
  • clip

Directions:

Step 1

First, cut your fabric into strips that are thin enough to put together. After cutting all your strips, grab three of them, and clip them together at the top. Start plaiting them and continue to plait unit you reach the end of the fabric. When you get to the end, grab another strip of fabric, fold it in, and continue on plaiting. Repeat this step until you have finished all your fabric strips.

Step 2

Next, stitch the top of the strip to secure it, then sew the plait into a spiral shape. (Make sure to use a strong needle and set the sewing machine to a wide zigzag stitch.) Just start adding the braid while you slowly turn your machine, making sure it is attached. Keep sewing until you reached the width that you want the bottom of your basket to be. When you reach your desired width, lift your spiral to the side to create the walls of the basket and just continue adding the braid while stitching. Keep sewing until you’ve run out of fabric. When you reach the end of your plait. you can either cut it and sew it together to finish or you can be creative and sew a little handle in place.
