You can do a lot with your fabric scraps, so don’t throw them away. Here’s a criss-cross star quilt block by Lori Holt on Youtube. Isn’t this pattern gorgeous? I must say that this is one of the most simple yet beautiful blocks I have ever seen – it did catch my attention! I am sure other people will love this design too. The star has 8 points in different colors, each overlapping the other, and the center has a square shape. It’s very easy to make and beginner-friendly. Set aside 4 background squares and the center square.
Get one background square and one colored square. Place them right sides together lined up in the corner. Sew on the colored square diagonally from corner to corner of the outside edges. Do the same on the remaining background squares.
Once done, trim an approximate quarter-inch seam allowance on the corner of the units. Press the fabrics toward the star points. Try not to work it back and forth too much, as they’re on the bias.
Get one unit and one colored square. Place the colored square right side down on the opposite side of the triangle. Sew it diagonally from corner to corner just like the first one. Do the same on the remaining units.
Trim an approximate quarter-inch seam allowance on the corner of the units. Press the fabrics toward the star points.
Arrange the units just like in the photo.
First, sew them in rows then press the fabric with an iron. After that, sew the whole block together.
