Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups of milk
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder
  • 4 oz of 70% dark chocolate
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • a pinch of salt

For serving on top:

  • freshly whipped cream
  • cocoa powder or chocolate shavings

Note: this yummy hot chocolate recipe makes about 2 to 4 servings

Instructions:

Step 1:

Chop the chocolate into small pieces and set aside.

Step 2:

In a small mixing bowl, add 1/2 cup of milk and 1 to 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Mix the ingredients until well incorporated and smooth.

Step 3:

In a small pot, add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, 1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar, a pinch of salt, and 1 cup of milk. Place it over heat and whisk until well combined. Bring the chocolate to a simmer.

Step 4:

Once simmering, pour the cornstarch mixture and whisk until it slightly thickens.

Step 5:

Add the chopped chocolate pieces to the pot and turn off the heat. Mix until melted and thick using a whisk.

Step 6:

Pour the hot chocolate into separate mugs. Next, add some heavy cream and whisk until stiff peaks. You can also use canned whipped cream, but freshly made is better. Add some on top of the hot chocolate and garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder if desired. Serve and enjoy while hot.
