It’s a quick project you can make to use your stash of fat quarters or if you just want to pass the time. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned quilter, you’ll enjoy doing this quilt. Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step by step instructions.

Materials:

  • 16 fat quarters
  • rotary cutter
  • rotating mat
  • quilt rulers

Directions:

Step 1

To start, iron out all the creases of your fat quarters. Once done, cut one 4 1/2″ x 16 1/2″ rectangle and one 13 1/4″ square on one fat quarter. Cut the 13 1/4″ square twice at a 45-degree angle to make four half triangles. Lastly, cut one 4 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle. Repeat these steps on every single fat quarter. Once you have all the fabrics cut accordingly, rotate your fabrics around within the half triangles, then sew everything back together.

Step 2

First, sew the smaller half-square triangles together forming a larger half-square triangle. After this, sew the half-square triangles together to complete the 12 1/2″ square. With a different print from your triangle center square, sew a 4 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle to the bottom of your finished square followed by a 4 1/2″ x 16 1/2″ rectangle to the left side to complete the creaky cabin quilt block. (This block should measure 16 1/2″ square.) Repeat these steps to create 16 more blocks.

Step 3

Once you have all the blocks, start assembling the quilt top. Lay the blocks in a 4 x 4 block layout, rotating every other block 90 degrees. Sew these blocks together to form rows, then sew those rows together to complete the quilt top.
