Get one white square and one colored square. Draw an X on your background square from corner to corner. Place it on top of the printed square and sew a quarter of an inch away from the lines on both sides. Repeat for the remaining squares.
Cut it in half in the middle horizontally and vertically to get 4 squares. Next, cut them on diagonal lines. Now, you should have 8 half-square triangles. press them open with an iron. Repeat for the remaining squares.
First, make a pinwheel in the center using four half-square triangles – use two of each color. Next, make the legs of the pinwheel longer by placing matching half-square triangles. After that fill the remaining spaces with the same half squares. The points should come together. See the photo below for reference.
Sew the pinwheel first with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Next, sew the outside half-square triangles. Iron them and sew the top and bottom rows first. After that, sew the sides on the pinwheel. Press it with an iron. Sew the top and bottom to the center row. Press them flat with an iron.
Repeat steps 3 to 4 with the remaining half-square triangles. You should have 20 blocks. For this quilt, you need 4 blocks across and 5 down. This will be a 74″ by 90″ quilt.
