Chinese takeaways are popular for a reason. They are packed with flavors, cheap, and filling. Whenever I am craving something salty and savory, I go to the nearest Chinese restaurant, and they never disappoint. One of my go-to orders is the Chinese take out pepper steak. It is simply the best. The beef is perfectly cooked, and coated with a thick and delicious soy-based sauce.

I wanted to recreate it at home, so I looked for recipes online and found Simply Mamá Cooks’ video. I immediately tried it, and it turned out delicious. It has the same flavor as my favorite pepper steak! I highly recommend this easy dinner recipe. You can serve it with white rice, fried rice, steamed broccoli, mashed potatoes, or noodles.

For the sauce:
In a bowl, add 1 tablespoon of cold water, 1 tablespoon of cooking wine, and 2 teaspoons of baking soda. Add the thinly sliced meat and mix until well coated. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. After that, rinse it with cold water.
Add a generous amount of water into a wok and let it come to a boil. Add the meat and blanch for a minute. Remove from the wok.
Make the sauce. Combine all the sauce ingredients in a bowl. Mix until well combined.
In a clean wok, add 2 tablespoons of oil. Once hot, add the beef, whites of the scallions, minced garlic, and ginger paste. Mix until well combined.
Mix in the onion and bell pepper. Add 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and the sauce. Stir well. Push the beef to the side and let the sauce thicken. Once thick, give it a mix until well coated, then turn off the heat. Serve and enjoy!
