Cut 2 1/2 inch strips from the background then make 16 pieces of 2 1/2 inch squares. Take 2 of the squares and fold them in half diagonally. Take your colored square and put 2 1/2 inch squares on both opposite corners. Sew on the diagonal line. Cut the corners from the small squares then press using an iron.
Take a 5-inch square background fabric and a 5″ printed square then place them right sides together. Sew all the way around with a quarter-inch allowance. Place a ruler diagonally from one corner to another then cut. Next, cut it diagonally in the other direction. Make sure they are 3-inch squares. Trim off excess then press them open. You will also use them for the border.
Make 3″ by 5″ background rectangles. Place 2 on the left and right sides of the 5″ square block then place the 3″ square blocks on the opposite corners on the top and bottom. Take 2 more 3′ x 5″ rectangles then place them on the sides of the 3″ square blocks on the top and bottom.
Sew them together and make sure the seams are aligned. Once done, press the seams. Make 41 more of this block. There will be 6 blocks in each row then 7 blocks per column.
Take 2 pieces of the extra 3″ square blocks then place the colors together. Sew them in a long strip, flipping the blocks after each one to make the ribbon border.
