To make these classic treats at home, you only need 7 ingredients – sugar, baking soda, salt, buttermilk, butter, pecan, and vanilla. I’m pretty sure you already have most of these items at home, so you can make them right away, but don’t be surprised when these treats won’t last a day. Christmas Pralines Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup of butter
  • 2 cups of pecan (halves)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

How to Make Buttermilk Pecan Pralines

Step 1:

In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, soda, salt, and buttermilk. Mix and cook over high heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil.

Step 2:

Once it’s boiling, continue to boil and stir until the mixture begins to thicken and becomes slightly creamy. It should be 210º on a candy thermometer.

Step 3:

Add the butter and pecans and continue boiling the mixture over medium high heat until it reaches 234º. This is called the soft ball stage.

Step 4:

Take the pan off of heat and add the vanilla. Let it cool for about 2 minutes. Start beating the mixture until it begins to lose its gloss and is thick and creamy. Immediately drop by spoonful in 2 inch rounds on foil or wax paper. If it becomes too hard, immerse the pan in hot water for a few minutes.
