The small scraps will just come from trimming the blocks into 9-inch squares. It’s perfect for beginners as it does not require too much sewing and complicated steps. Get one of the layer cakes. Take the ruler and align the 60-degree line on the edge at the bottom right corner of your layer cake. Cut with your rotary cutter.
Take the same ruler and rotate it around with the 60-degree line on the cut edge and slide it down until the ruler hits the bottom left corner of the fabric, forming a 60-degree triangle. Repeat for all the layer cakes that you have.
Once they are all cut, rotate your fabrics and piece everything back together. First, select one print 60-degree triangle, then for the other two pieces make sure they are a different print from that triangle, but matching.
Sew the left side together first with a quarter-inch seam allowance. Open and iron, then sew the right side triangle piece to your block. Make sure the right corner at the bottom are lined up directly on top of each other and the top portion of the block will sit just past about a quarter inch. Once done, press the seams open.
Trim the blocks into 9-inch squares. Make sure your right and left corners are on the seam and your top triangle point should lay right on a four-and-a-half-inch line.
Lay your blocks side by side with the triangle pointing up.
