I’ve never seen a quilt as easy and simple as this one but is also very beautiful at the same time, at first, I thought this project would be a bit tricky, but it’s actually the opposite, and even beginners can give it a try! Learn how to make this quilt block with this video tutorial by Carol Thelen on YouTube.

Materials:

  • Fabric strips @2½ inches, different colors, and prints
  • Black fabric
  • Background or white fabric
  • Ruler
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine
  • Pattern (Click here to download the pattern)

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the black and background fabric to size, then lay together a strip of each fabric with their right sides facing, and sew them together. Press the seams open, then subcut them into strip sets, and set them aside. To cut the print and colored strips, simply trim off the ends first, then cut 1 part at 12½ inches and the other at 8½ inches, continue to cut the rest of the strips, and stack them together with their respective sizes.

Step 2

Get 2 of the black and white strip units, then lay them beside each other making sure that their colors are opposite each other, stitch them together, and press them open. Place a small white rectangle on the top and bottom of the 4-patch block, then sew them together, and press the seams open. Get 2 shorter colored strips, then place 1 on each side of the patchwork, sew them in place, and press.

You’re block is done, proceed to make more making sure to alternate and play with the colors and prints of the fabric, then finish your quilt however you want, and enjoy!
