Okra has grown on me over the last couple of years, and they are so healthy and good for you. Sweetsavant on YouTube shows step by step how to make lemon pepper okra in the air fryer. There’s no flour or cornmeal added to this recipe, but they still turned out crispy. I used to hate okra growing up because it would taste so slimy. They can be slimy, but make sure to cut them with a sharp knife. I’ve never had my okra fried before, but I want to try it since they should have a better texture. My dad would make vegetable soup with okra, and I would fish around it every time.
First, preheat the air fryer to 425F. Wash the okra in cool water, and dry them off. Let it air dry for 10-15 minutes. Patting off any excess water will make the okra extra crispy when they cook in the air fryer. Cut the crown off the top of the okra then in half or in quarters depending on the size. Next, once the okra is well seasoned and oiled, place the okra in the air fryer. Do not overcrowd them, and cook for about 8 minutes in separate batches.
Overall, oil that is high heat is great for this recipe because it will keep the sliminess down from the okra and keep them crispy when they are cooking in the air fryer. Do not toss them around too long because it can create extra slime on the okra.
