Assemble the paper lantern according to the package instructions.
Coat the lantern with Mod Podge.
Paint the small basket with brown. Use wet tissue to thin out the paint so it looks more natural. Let it dry.
Hold the lantern a few inches above the basket, then measure from the top of the lantern to the top edge of the basket. Cut 8 pieces of jute twine with that measurement.
Take one jute string and glue the end on the top of the lantern seam. Follow the seam, then glue it halfway down the lantern. Repeat with the remaining seams of the lantern. Glue the ends onto the top edge of the basket, spacing them evenly.
Wrap the top edge of the basket with jute twine, gluing it as you go.
Glue jute twine around the lantern horizontally 1/3 from the top. Next, measure from the top of the lantern to the horizontal jute twine. Cut pieces of jute twine with that measurement and glue them between the vertical strings.
Cut small pieces of jute twine and place a wooden bead inside. Glue the ends between the vertical twines. See the photo below for reference.
Make four small sandbags using fabric scraps and jute twine. Glue them on four sides.
Place the lightweight object in the basket and add the battery-operated light(optional). Hang your lantern.
