Cut 2 1/2″ strips from your background fabric. Take one and sew it with a colored 2 1/2″ strip with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Trim into 5 1/2″ units. Repeat with the other colored strips.
Take another 2 1/2″ background strip and a 2 1/2″ colored print strip. Sew them together to make a 2-unit strip just like in step 1. Trim into 2 1/2″ units. Repeat with other colors.
Take two pieces of 2 1/2″ units. Lay them right sides together with opposite colors touching. Sew with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Open and press. Now you have a four-patch block. Repeat with the remaining units.
Take one 5 1/2″ unit and place it on your work surface horizontally. Place a 2 1/2″ unit on the right end, making sure the colors are touching the whites. Sew them together with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Open and press. Now, you have the block. Repeat the same process with the remaining units.
Arrange the blocks together in rows in the same direction, then sew the rows together to make the quilt top. Make sure to alternate the colors.
