Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, shortening, and salt, then mix them using a pastry cutter until the shortening is turned into small pea-sized pieces, and set the mixture aside. In a separate bowl or measuring cup, beat the egg until light in color, then add the vinegar and water, and stir them until well combined.
Step 2
Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture, then continue to stir until incorporated, and start to knead it until a dough forms. Divide it into two evenly, then place one of the doughs on a floured surface, and roll it out until it’s large enough. Transfer it to your pie plate, then gently press it down the bottom, and crimp the edges nicely.
Step 3
Place a heavy-bottomed medium saucepan on a stove over medium heat, then add the butter and chocolate chips, and heat it until completely melted but not boiling. Remove the saucepan from the heat, then add in the sugar, flour, milk, corn syrup, vanilla, and eggs, and stir them until incorporated.
Step 4
Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust, then place it in an oven preheated at 350°F, and let it bake for about 30 minutes. Once done baking, transfer the pie to a wire rack, then let it cool completely, and top it with whipped cream before serving. Enjoy!
