Grocery shopping means accumulating a ton of unnecessary plastic wrappers. Some shops offer goods and produce in bulk and require you to bring your own containers to avoid waste, but not all places have them. If you are living alone or have a small space, it might not be the best option.

To avoid plastic waste, I suggest using reusable produce bags instead. Here’s an easy sewing tutorial by Allsewpetite on YouTube. The best thing about these bags is that they are washable and customizable. You can make them in different sizes and change the colors however you like. Watch the video below for the full tutorial.
Here’s another project you might like: Make a Bag Using Fabric Circles
Cut a rectangle from your mesh fabric. The size will depend on the size of your bag. Cut two rectangular pieces from your cotton fabric for the trim the same width as your mesh fabric and 2.4 inches long.
Fold one longer edge of the trims by 0.4 inches. Take one and measure 0.8 inches and 1.6 inches along the shorter edges. Place the trim pieces right sides together, lining up the short edges, and pin them together. Make sure the folded parts are on the same side. Sew on the shorter edges, leaving the space between the marks open. Press the seams open and top stitch on both sides.
Fold the mesh rectangle on the longer side. Stitch along both sides with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Flip it right side out. Press the seams flat. Stitch on both sides with a 3/8″ seam allowance.
Line up the seams of the mesh and the trim. Pin everything together. Sew around the top edge with a 3/8″ seam allowance. Take the trim and put it outside of the bag, then take the folded edge and fold it in half. Pin in place. Top stitch the trim about 1/8″ from the edge.
Insert the tube or cord through the tube.
