Who knew that you don’t have to use any kitchen tool to remove the skin of the potatoes? Of course, you can leave the skin on if you want to, especially when frying or baking. Doing this will make the skin extra crispy. But some recipes are just better without the skin on. This a great tip if you are making silky mashed potatoes or potato salads. Learn how to peel a potato with your bare hands in just four simple steps.
Note: it is best to use Russet potatoes for this trick
Fill a pot with water and place over heat. Add the potatoes and boil until they are cooked.
When the potatoes are almost cooked, add ice cubes into a large bowl and fill it with water.
Once the potatoes are cooked, remove them using a slotted spoon to drain excess water, then immediately put them into the ice water. Let them sit for about 5 to 10 seconds until they are cool enough to handle.
Take them out of the ice water bath and pull the skin off with your bare hands. The skin should just slip right off. That’s all you need to do. Repeat with the remaining potatoes.
