Cake
Frosting
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F, then grease 2 round cake pans with nonstick cooking spray, and dust them with flour. In a large mixing bowl, add the chocolate, butterscotch, and hot water, then stir them until melted, and set the mixture aside.
Step 2
In a large bowl, add the shortening and sugar, then beat them to combine, and then add the eggs and chocolate mixture. Beat them for an additional minute over medium speed, then add a cup of flour followed by the buttermilk, and keep mixing to incorporate.
Step 3
Now, add the remaining flour and continue mixing over medium speed for 2 more minutes, then divide the batter into the prepared round pans evenly, and place them in the preheated oven. Allow them to bake for about 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean, then let them cool while preparing the frosting.
Step 4
Place a saucepan on a stove over low heat, then add the chocolate and butterscotch chips, and pour in the coffee. Stir them until melted, then turn off the heat, and remove the saucepan. Add in the powdered sugar, then beat them until smooth and shiny, and frost the cake with it.
