What I love about this recipe is its simplicity and how easy you can make this in a crockpot which takes away the hassle, but most of all, the fact that you don’t need to soak the beans overnight, but if you want to, you can still do so.
Step 1
Cut the onion into 4 large slices and set them aside, then place a large skillet on a stove over medium-high heat, and add the cooking oil. Add the onion slices, then cook them until brown on both sides and then turn off the heat. Sort the beans and discard any rock or dirt clumps, then rinse the beans clean, and add them to the crockpot.
Step 2
Add the cooked onions on top of the beans, then add the chicken bouillon cubes, garlic, and cayenne powder, and pour in the water. Cover the crockpot with the lid, then cook them on a high setting for about 5 to 6 hours or on a low setting for about 10 hours.
Step 3
Once done cooking, scoop out about half of the bean broth or juice and set it aside, then put the butter on the beans, and blend them until smooth and combined. Pour the reserved broth back into the crockpot if the consistency is too thick, then serve, and enjoy!
