Spread 1/2 tablespoon of butter on each slice of bread. Make sure to spread it evenly.
Place a skillet over medium or low heat and put the bread slices butter side down.
On one piece of toast, stack the cheeses: cheddar, havarti, then gouda. Once the other side of the bread slices is golden brown, place the other toast on top crisp sides on the outside.
Continue toasting until the bread has rich golden brown colors, flipping it once, and press down lightly to stick the bread slices to the cheese. Total cooking time will take about 5 to 6 minutes. Keep the heat on medium-low to slowly toast the bread slices, letting the cheese fully melt and adhere to the bread.
Once the cheese has melted and the bread slices are browned, remove them from the pan and place on a plate. Cut it in half diagonally and serve. Repeat the process with the next sandwich. You can have it with freshly made tomato soup if you want.
