Level up your thanksgiving with this simple yet special Citrus Brine recipe by Old School Soul Food. Turkey is almost a must in every thanksgiving celebration there is, it is the main star of the event. It is also a great way to impress and show off your cooking skills to family and friends. This year I wanted to try something simple yet savory and this recipe did not disappoint. My turkey turned out very juicy and flavorful, the citrus flavor and the herbs perfectly seeped onto the turkey meat which amplified its taste. I recommend this recipe as it is very easy, quick, and uses only a few ingredients. Without further ado, let’s head on to the recipe!
Step 1:
In a large pot, put your sliced oranges, fresh herbs (thyme and rosemary), whole peppercorns, bay leaves, and kosher salt.
Step 2:
Fill your pot with water and let it boil. Let the oranges release their citrus flavor and the salt melt. Leave it for 30-45 minutes to boil.

Step 3:
After boiling the brine, let it cool off completely before putting it in the fridge (this will let it cool faster).
Step 4:
Now that your brine is ready, prepare your turkey and put it inside a big bucket, make sure that it’s big enough to completely submerge the turkey in the brine. Pour all of the brine in the turkey including the oranges and herbs.
Step 5:
After submerging the turkey in the brine, put it in the fridge and leave it there for 24 hours. Let the flavors seep into turkey and you’re all done.
