This is such a fabulous and positive idea! I’ve made these for several of my friends and they have just adored them, although the first person I made one of these for is myself. I simply had to have one right away! I renamed my jar and call it “My Happy Jar”. I put everything I can think of that makes me happy and things that I am grateful for in it. Just the process of sitting down and coming up with things that make me happy and that I’m grateful for is very cathartic. It gives me a whole new sense of how lucky I am and always lifts my spirits! As human beings, we tend to take many things for granted and, by doing this, will bring you back to a better place.
I’d always heard that when a person gets in a depressed state of mind or feels sorry for themselves, writing a gratitude list will lift them out of that state of mind…well, it definitely does! I believe this is one of the best things I’ve done for myself and if more of us did this we would all be a lot happier!
In this tutorial, she writes on small rocks, which I think is a unique idea. I wrote on small pieces of paper and folded them when I put them in my jar, but I don’t think there would be enough space if I used rocks. When I started writing these, I was amazed at how many pieces of paper I cut and folded! I take one out every morning when I start my day. It always puts a smile on my face and it’s a great way to begin a day.
Watch how Samantha Schuerman does hers in this step by step tutorial. I highly recommend this activity…it has changed my outlook on things!
