Method 1

For this, you will need 5 4×4″ square fabric pieces of different colors and four white squares ironed in the shape of a triangle. Lay the square fabric pieces into 2 rows, then lay the white folded triangles on top of the colored squares, forming a diamond shape. Secure with pins. Lay one on the other square, with white triangles facing each other, and stitch it to the inner edge. Do the same to the other two squares. After sewing, iron the stitches on the back side and sew them all together. (Just lay one pair on top of the other, white triangles facing each other, then sew on the inner edge to form a square.) Next, take the fifth colored square, lay it on the middle top (inside of the white diamond),  and pin it to secure. After this, fold the white fabric toward the colored fabric and sew it. Do this to all four sides. Your cathedral quilt block is now finished.

Method 2

For the second method, you need 4 pcs. 16×16″ square fabric. Fold the first fabric in half and sew both sides. Fold the fabric again, with the seams in the center, pin it, then sew the opening, leaving a small gap to turn the fabric over. Trim off the corners and turn it over the gap, you should end up with the fabric having an “X” from corner to corner. Iron the fabric to smoothen it out. Now, fold all four corners toward the center and pin them to secure. Repeat this process to the 3 remaining 16×16′ square fabrics. Once you have 4 pcs. of fabric all sewn up, lay them down in 2 rows, forming a big square. Attach these all together and stitch them from corner to corner. You now have a 15.5 x 15.5″ square. Now, take some colored pieces of 5×5″ square fabric and put them on each middle of the diamond shape on top of the fabric. Pin them to secure, then fold the white fabric sides toward the colored fabric and sew it. Your cathedral window block is now finished.
