This watergate salad by In the Kitchen With Gina Young on YouTube is a pistachio dessert that doesn’t take many ingredients to make. The dessert has a great final presentation that would look delicious on the dinner table for the holidays or birthdays. I’ve never had pistachio pudding, so this dessert is something I am not used to seeing. It’s a unique dessert, and I like how I am unfamiliar with it which makes me want to make this even more. Pistachios are my favorite nuts to eat and snack on, so I am curious how this dessert would taste with all of the other ingredients combined. I think there would be a flavor overload with this Watergate salad. Also, I think it’s an interesting dessert for the kids because most of the ingredients are easy to eat.
First, start off with the pistachio pudding, and follow the instructions on the box. Mix the pudding powder and milk together with a hand mixer or by hand with a cooking spoon. Mix until the consistency thickens.

Next, dump the crushed pineapples (drained), chopped pistachios, marshmallows, and fold everything together. Lastly, add the cool whip in the end and folding over the rest of the ingredients lightly. Top of the dessert with pistachios and maraschino cherries.
Overall, there’s a lot of texture going on in this dessert such as the fluffiness from the marshmallows, and the sour, tangy sweetness from the pineapples. Plus, it’s a mouthful of different flavors mixed together that would give my taste buds a shock.
