#1 Teflon Cookware

Many people opt for Teflon because it’s convenient and they’re everywhere. But Teflon is the most dangerous cookware. The non-stick properties of this cookware are achieved with a coating of PTFE or Polytetrafluoroethylene. PTFE is a plastic polymer that when heated above 572 degrees F, starts to release toxins. These toxin fumes can cause flu-like symptoms called polymer fume fever or “Teflon flu”.  Another chemical compound found in Teflon is PFOA or Perfluorooctanoic acid. It’s a man-made chemical also known as C8. This chemical is threatening because it tends to stay in the body as well as in the environment for long periods.

Safer alternative: Real Cast-Iron Skillet

#2 Aluminum Cookware and Aluminum Foil

Aluminum, though widely used in the world, is in fact a neurotoxic material. Elevated levels of aluminum in the body have been linked to several nervous system diseases including Alzheimer’s and ALS. As for aluminum foil, using it while cooking is even more dangerous. The body can only manage 20mg of aluminum per pound of body weight a day and wrapping your food and cooking it this way can aggressively increase the amount of this substance leaking into your food.

Safer alternative: Glass Cookware

#3 Copper Cookware

Just like a lot of metals, the human body needs copper in just a small amount and when the body gets too much, it can lead to life-threatening complications. Copper cookware, especially when it’s not coated, can send you to the emergency room with metal poisoning because cooking citric foods in this cookware can make it release copper.

Safer alternative: Stainless Steel

#4 Ceramic-Coated Cookware

Soft ceramic coating isn’t durable enough and starts chipping after a few months, and when this happens, chipped ceramic coating can sometimes have lead and cadmium. Lead poisoning is one of the most dangerous types of metal poisoning and can result in multiple body problems. Cadmium, on the other hand, is toxic even in the tiniest amount. If it does get in your body, it will negatively impact your various systems.

Safer alternative: 100% Ceramic Cookware
