Detergent bottles can easily accumulate over time, especially if you live in a big household or with kids where a lot of laundry is done per week. Don’t throw them out, as there are a lot of ways to recycle them. One of my favorite DIY projects is this elephant pot. I got this idea from Garden Design on YouTube and love it so much!

Most materials you will use for this project are already in your home. You only need a marker, an empty detergent bottle, a blade/cutter, scissors, and glue. You don’t even need paint, as the laundry bottles are already colored.
It’s easy and fun to make – definitely a great way to recycle plastic bottles. Learn how to turn a detergent bottle into an elephant pot with the step-by-step instructions below.

Draw on the empty detergent bottles just like in the photo below.
Using a cutter, carefully cut the bottle using the line as the guide. To make the process easier, you can use a sharp pair of scissors. Set aside the bottom part for the pot.
Draw an upside-down U on the front and back of the bottle, an M-shape on the flat side, and then another upside-down U on the handle side. Carefully cut using a pair of scissors.
From the cutouts, cut elephant ear shapes. Fold the tips.
Using a cutter, carefully cut on the sides of the bottle, then insert the ears.
Draw some eyes on the cut-outs using a permanent marker. Glue them on the top part of the handle. Draw the eyebrows and the horizontal lines on the nose. Draw the curves on the feet as well as for the toes.
Cut the handle on the bottom part of the bottle. Take the cap and trace the circle on the bottom part. Cut the circle.
Place the cap back on the top part of the bottle. Insert the bottom part just like in the photo below.
Fill it with soil then plant.
