Air Fryer recipes can be difficult to master, especially onion rings. This recipe by The Salted Pepper has to be the best way to make Air Fryer onion rings I’ve ever seen. She even shows you how to remove the membrane from an onion ring that keeps the batter from sticking.
For exact measurements check out The Salted Pepper’s YouTube video down below.
Slice your onions into onion rings. Onions have a membrane between each layer. You will want to remove the membrane from each of the onion rings.
You will create your wet batter and your dry batter.
For the wet batter, you will use 1/2 a cup of beer, one tablespoon of hot sauce, one large egg and mix it up. Add in 3/4 a cup of flour to the wet mixture. Sift the flour into it doesn’t get clumpy or become a paste. Continue this until all our flour is mixed in. If the better starts getting too thick, add in water one teaspoon at a time. It should be a little bit thinner than a pancake batter. Sprinkle a little bit of salt into the wet batter.
For the dry batter, combine 1 cup of unseasoned bread crumbs with 1/2 a teaspoon of sea salt, 1/2 a teaspoon of garlic powder and 1/2 a teaspoon of onion powder.
If you want spicy onion rings this is the batter you can add hotter flavors into.
Start breading the onion rings. Using a fork twirl an onion ring in the wet batter then move it over to the dry batter and cover it in the bread crumbs. After the onion rings are covered, place them onto a drying rack and preheat your air fryer on broil for 10 minutes.

Put the onion rings into the AirFryer on the air crisp mode. Spritz them in oil before starting the air fryer. Once they are all cooked, take them out and put them on a cooling rack.
