My Grandma used to make this Texas sheet cake for my birthday every year. I did not have the recipe but I was so lucky to find this awesome Texas sheet cake video recipe tutorial by Bigger Bolder Baking, on YouTube. This cake is just like my grandma’s but it needs coconut and more pecans in the icing, other than that, it’s fine. I love finding new ways to use my sheet pan, they are good for way more than cookies! So when I saw this recipe for my grandma’s sheet cake, I knew I had to try it. Sheet cakes are my favorite food on the face of the planet and homemade cakes are the best of all, but really not that easy to make, I’ve tried many times. The actual cake recipe here is simple and easy to follow. The ingredients are very basic, you just use a basic cake mix which is great because it can be gluten-free or even regular old flour, this amazing sheet pan recipe will turn out fine. I got started by gathering my ingredients.

Ingredients For The Texas Sheet Cake:

For The Cake Batter:

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 3/4  cups of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup of oil

For The Frosting:

  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of evaporated milk
  • 1/3 cup of semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 cup of coconut
  • 1 cup of pecans
