Summer in the Park Quilt Tutorial

I’ve been quilting for quite some time now, and one of my favorite projects is this summer in the park quilt from Missouri Star on Youtube. The options for this quilt are limitless; you can arrange the blocks based on your preference or make it simple. These kinds of quilts are my favorite. It also doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner; this quilt is for every skill level! I remember doing this as a newbie, yet I didn’t have a hard time following the instructions. Materials:

• 1 roll of 2 1/2″ print strips (jelly roll)
• 1 roll of 2 1/2″ background strips (jelly roll)
• 3/4 yard of inner border fabric
• 1 3/4″ yards of fabric for outer border and binding
• 5 yards of backing fabric (vertical seams)

Directions:

Step 1

To start, you will need two strip sets; one set is two colors and a background and the other strip set is two backgrounds and a color. Sew these sets together, then press them open. You’ll make 13 strip sets of each type and you’ll need two strip sets for each block you’re going to do. Once you have all your strip sets, choose two to go together and put them right on top of each other, right sides together, sewing a 1/4″ seam on both long edges to make a tube.

Step 2

After sewing, grab a square ruler and line the 45 along the seam, then cut. Flip the tube, lay the 45 on the top row, line it up until it comes even, then cut. Slide the 45 over and cut again. Repeat this until you finish the whole length (you can also use a slotted ruler), then press the 8 1/2″ squares open. Now, lay the blocks to make the quilt top. You can sew them together in blocks or square boxes, totally up to you.
