Want to combine two patterns in one block? Make this stars and pinwheels quilt by Missouri Star! You have the star in the center and triangles in the corners. When the blocks are sewn together, the triangles form into a pinwheel. Isn’t that great? Watch the video below for full instructions.

Take a 10-inch square and cut two pieces of 2 1/2″ strips. Next, sub-cut them into 2 1/2″ squares. You should have 8 squares. On the leftover piece, cut a 4 1/2″ square, and two pieces of 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.
From the background fabric, cut 8 pieces of 2 1/2″ squares and 12 pieces of 4 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles.
Make the legs of the stars. Take the 4 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ background rectangle and put a 2 1/2″ printed square on one corner, right side down. Sew diagonally from corner to corner. Once done, trim above the sewn line, and iron it. Repeat to the other side. Make sure it creates a V in the center. Repeat 3 more times to make 4 flying geese units.
Take 4 pieces of background rectangles and sew them on the bottom of each flying geese unit. Once done, press them open. These will be the legs of your star.
Take the 4 1/2″ printed square and place the legs of the star on all four sides.
Take a 4 1/2″ by 2 1/2″ printed rectangle and 2 pieces of 2 1/2″ squares. Make them into flying geese again. Once done, sew the 4 1/2″ by 2 1/2″ background rectangle on the top. Repeat 3 more times to make a total of 4.
Arrange all the blocks. Refer to the photo below for the arrangement. Sew them in rows first. Remember to press the top and bottom seams out and the middle seam in. Once done, sew the rows together. You need 30 blocks for this quilt. To finish the pinwheels out in the border, sew two flying geese blocks and put a solid block in between.
