Cut multiple pieces of layer cakes into four pieces (5″ each), then stack them aside by colors. Next, take your 5″ white charm pack and draw two lines diagonally (one in the middle and one beside the center) Line it with your 5″ color fabric and sew right on the lines. Cut it in between the two lines, then press open. Repeat these steps to make more.
Now, start making the quilt top. For the first row, lay ten 5″ blue fabrics, two blue half-square triangles, and then two reds. Continue building the rows, making sure the 5″ squares and half-square triangles are placed right (check out the free pattern above to follow the diagram).
