I found this square patchwork centerpiece mat by Liza Decor and it’s gorgeous! The design is perfect for my vases. It has stars on the sides and squares in the middle. This is a super easy block – trust me! It starts from half-square triangles, so it’s great for beginners.
For each block:

Place the white square on top of the light and dark 6″ squares, right side together. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on each stack. Sew 1/4″ away from the line on both sides for both stacks. Once done, sew directly on the line, then open each one. Flatten them with an iron and trim them into 5.25″ x 5.25″ blocks. Now you have half-square triangles.
Arrange the four blocks into an hourglass. The ones with dark fabrics should point toward the center and the light fabrics toward the outside. Sew them together in rows first with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Once done, sew the rows together. Flatten with an iron.
To disappear the hourglass, cut 1.5″ away from the center seam on all sides.
Rotate all the surrounding blocks except for the middle 180 degrees. It should look like the photo below. Sew them in rows first, then flatten them. Once done, sew the rows together to make the block with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. After that, trim it into an 8.5″ block.
Make three more of the same blocks.
There are several ways to arrange the four blocks. You can flip them and see what you like most. Once you have decided, sew in rows first. After that, sew them together to make the block. Quilt the block and bind.
