This yummy dessert recipe by The Hillbilly Kitchen – Down Home Country Cooking is the budget-friendly version of the classic chocolate cobbler cake because almost all of the ingredients used in this are already available in your pantry and if not then you can substitute it with what you have and it will still taste absolutely incredible. Ingredients:

  • 1¾ cups of water
  • ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons of cocoa
  • 3 tablespoons of oil
  • ½ cup of milk
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of self-rising flour

Directions:

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, 2 tablespoons of cocoa, and sugar, then stir them all together until well combined before adding the oil, and milk. Give them a good mix until fully combined and incorporated, then pour this into a baking dish greased with a nonstick cooking spray.

Step 2

In a separate mixing bowl, add the brown sugar and the remaining cocoa, then mix them well until combined, and preheat your oven to 350 at this point as well. Pour the cocoa and sugar mixture all over the top of the batter, then shake the baking dish gently to spread the cocoa evenly, now heat up the water, or if you have hot water available use it, and pour all over the top of the cocoa mixture making sure not to shake and to leave it as is. Put this in the preheated oven and let it bake for about 40 to 45 minutes.
