Instructions

Step 1:

In a bowl of a stand mixer, add 1 cup of flour, milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and yeast. Whisk until combined. Loosely cover it and set it aside at room temperature for about 45 minutes.

Step 2:

Once it’s ready, add 6 eggs, salt, and remaining 5 cups of flour, remaining 5 tablespoons of sugar. Place the hook attachment and beat on low speed for about 2 minutes until well combined. Make sure to scrape the sides as needed. Continue kneading for about 10 to 12 minutes until the dough is shiny and elastic.

Step 3:

Keep the mixer on low speed, then gradually add the butter 1 tablespoon at a time. Once done, increase the speed to medium-low and continue kneading for 8 minutes more until the dough is smooth and elastic. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Cover it and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size for about an hour.

Step 4:

Prepare the loaf pans by greasing them with butter.

Step 5:

Remove the gas by punching down the dough, then place it on a lightly floured surface and divide it in half. Get one half and cut it into three equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 9-inch long rope, then braid the ropes together. Pinch the ends together to seal, then tuck them under and place them in the prepared loaf pan. Repeat with the other half of the dough. Loosely cover them, and let them rise in a warm place until they double in size for about an hour.

Step 6:

While waiting, preheat the oven to 375F.

Step 7:

Add the water and remaining 1 egg in a small bowl, and whisk them together. Brush the risen loaves with it.

Step 8:

Place the loaf inside the oven and bake for 35 minutes or until deep golden brown – cover it with aluminum foil after 25 minutes if the top is browning too quickly.

Step 9:

Once done baking, let the bread cool for about 5 minutes, then remove it from the pans and continue cooling on a wire rack.
