I love cooking any kind of casserole, why I had never thought of making a Sausage and Grits Casserole is beyond me because sausage and grits are two of my favorite foods in the whole wide world. I saw this recipe for Smokey Sausage And Grits Casserole on Youtube and had to try it, after all, I love breakfast food and I also love any kind of casserole so it was an obvious match made in Heaven for me. The recipe couldn’t be easier, first, preheat the oven to 375 degrees then you just pre-cook the sausage meat in a skillet, then you make delicious cheese grits, and a cup of milk, I then removed the meat mixture from the heat and set aside. I could not wait to make this and I already had all the ingredients in my pantry and refrigerator.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pound smoked sausage (chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked quick grits
  • 2 (8 ounce) blocks sharp cheddar cheese (shredded/ grated)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp chopped fresh thyme
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • Cooking spray (or good old Hog Lard)

Directions:

First, cut your sausages into cubes and the fry (sautee) in a skillet.

Then make a pot of grits and add your delicious sharp cheddar cheese.

Then add the rest of your ingredients to your grits.

Then add your cooked sausage cubes.

Add grits and sausage mixture to a casserole dish and bake at 350 F for 50 minutes, then enjoy this delicious casserole.
