The secret to a delicious pot roast is choosing the right cut of meat. Remember that tip. Sear your beef until browned and toss into the crock pot along with the other remaining ingredients. Cover it with the lid, and let your slow cooker do its magic. Once done, shred the meat, and it’s ready to serve.

  • 3 lbs of beef chuck
  • 4 cups of beef broth
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • baby carrots
  • 6 small white potatoes
  • 2 beef cubes
  • 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch

For searing the beef:

  • 1 tablespoon of onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon of thyme
  • 3 thyme sprigs
  • 1 teaspoon of celery salt

For the gravy:

  • 1/2 tablespoon of onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon of thyme
  • 1/2 tablespoon of rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper

How to Make Pot Roast

Step 1:

Start by mixing all the seasonings in a small bowl. Coat the beef with oil, then sprinkle the seasoning mix. Pat onto the skin. Flip it over and do the same on the other side.

Step 2:

Add 2 to 3 tablespoons on a skillet over heat. Once the oil is hot, add the beef and cook until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side.

Step 3:

Transfer the seared beef onto your crock pot. Add the carrots, potatoes, onion, thyme, minced garlic, beef cubes, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, gravy seasonings, and cornstarch slurry. Cover with foil, and place the lid. Cook for 3 hours at 350F.
