To make apple cider at home, you need apples, cinnamon, whole cloves, whole allspice, water, and brown sugar. Some people add oranges and other spices like nutmeg. Note: if you don’t have a slow cooker, use a saucepan and place it over medium heat.
Place the quartered apples into a slow cooker. Add 4 sticks of cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of whole cloves, 1 teaspoon of whole allspice, and 10 cups of water.
Cover it with the lid and cook on high setting for about 3 hours.
After 3 hours, mash the apples using a potato masher. Add 1/2 cup of brown sugar and mix well. Place the lid and cook for 1 to 3 more hours on a high setting.
Once done, place a colander on a large pot, then pour the apple cider to strain the solids from the liquids. Discard the solids, then store the liquid in an air-tight jar for up to one week or freeze it for later use. Serve and enjoy while warm.
