This pattern is one of my go-to whenever I have too many scraps that I need to use. It’s the perfect project for it as it uses scraps purely. What are you waiting for? Try making this quilt today!
To start, gather your fabric scraps and cut thirty 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″, twelve 2 1/2″ squares, and your middle black 4 1/2″ square. With this, you’ll do six of each – six with the back corners that’ll fold down to the right and six where they”ll fold down to the left. To do this, line up a black 2 1/2″ square on one side of the rectangle, then cut directly diagonally. Sew it down afterward. Do this to six of each of them. Set aside once done. Next, take the middle square, then sew two 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ on each side of it. Press open, then press the seams toward the darkest color.
Once you have all the pieces with half-square triangles, start laying the pieces out. Lay the middle block, then build the pieces around it (refer to the image below for the placements.) Once you have laid them out, sew the pieces together to form rows, then sew those rows together to form the quilt block. (Be mindful of the black corners and make sure they are placed right. Your side pieces won’t have any black corners, only the top and bottom parts.)
