These sausage bread rolls are a similar concept to pigs in a blanket, but I believe the breading is different. A traditional pig in a blanket is made out of crescent roll dough. I think the breading on this sausage bread roll is thicker and more wholesome. I love pigs in a blanket and the presentation of the crisscrossing of bread looks beautiful. This recipe by Savor Easy is easy to follow along with and is a great snack to make with kids. I always had fun making these growing up, and they’re such a kid-friendly meal/snack. These are easy to pack for lunch or a fast grab-n-go snack. You can also chop these into smaller chunks for a nice appetizer for a gathering. This sausage bread roll recipe has been added to my recipe book list and I look forward to recreating this.
First, mix the eggs and milk together. Continue to watch Savor Easy’s tutorial on how to create the bread for the sausage bread rolls.
Next, once the dough is rested and ready, divide it into 16 pieces. Form and roll the dough into a ball. Flatten the dough and shape it into a rectangle. Place the sausage or hot dog in the middle and make 4 slits on each side. Then, fold the strips crossing over the meat. Cover them when finished and let them rise for 30 more minutes.
Overall, I love this different take of pigs in a blanket. The breading on the sausage bread rolls look so soft and fluffy.
