Ingredients:

  • 1 & 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • salt, to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 3 cups broth
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 large diced onion
  • 1 lb sliced mushroom

Directions:

Step 1

Put the ground beef in a large mixing bowl, then add one egg, 1/2 cup of plain breadcrumbs, 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce, 3 tbsp of ketchup, salt to taste, 1/8 tsp of black pepper, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, and 1 tsp of dried parsley. Give everything a thorough mix. After this, shape the mixture into four nice size patties and place them in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the patties on both sides for two to three minutes. Once done, remove the patties and turn down the heat to medium.

Step 2

Add the diced onion and 1 lb of sliced mushrooms. Cook it down and deglaze the pan with the released liquid for five to seven minutes. Add 1 tsp of minced garlic and cook for another minute. Next, add 3 tbsp of butter, let it melt, then add 4 tbsp of all-purpose flour. Cook and stir for a minute or two until all the flour is absorbed. After this, add three cups of beef broth a little at a time. Turn up the heat and bring everything to a simmer, stirring and scraping the bottom to get all the flavor. Add salt to taste, 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce, and a sprinkle of black pepper. Stir it, then place the patties back. Bring this to a low simmer, partially covering and cooking for 45 minutes. (Baste the steak four times during the cooking process and turn them about halfway.)
