Always have trouble measuring your butter? No idea how many sticks you need for a cup? We’ve all been there. Many people still get confused about the conversion. Some recipes use weight and others use volume, which can be really confusing, especially if you are used to one over the other. Most of the time, there are conversions and guides on the packaging. If you struggle with the math, do not worry. To help you understand it better, I am sharing this tutorial by Janet Stephens on YouTube.

How to Measure Butter
Each box of butter contains 4 sticks.
First to remember is that we measure butter either by weight or volume.
Weight is how heavy it is. It can be pound (lb) or ounces (oz), while volume is how much space it occupies. It can be in a cup (C), tablespoon (T), or teaspoon (t).
Measuring butter by weight
As mentioned earlier, one box contains 4 sticks of butter.
1 pound (lb) = 4 sticks
Divide one pound by 4, so each stick is ¼ lb.
So, now you know that:
1 lb = 4 sticks
½ lb = 2 sticks
¼ lb = 1 stick
Measuring butter by cups
Remember that 1 lb of butter is equal to 2 cups
1 pound (lb) = 2 Cups
Divide one pound by 2, so each cup measures ½ lb of butter.
So, now you know that:
1 lb = 2 cups
½ lb = 1 cup
¼ lb = ½ cup
So, 4 sticks are equal to 2 cups, 2 sticks are equal to 1 cup, and 1 stick is equal to ½ cup.
Now you know that 1 stick is the same as ¼ lb or ½ C of butter, 2 sticks are the same as ½ lb or 1 cup of butter, and 4 sticks of butter are the same as 1 lb or 2 cups of butter.
Measuring butter by tablespoons
1 stick = 8 Tablespoons = ½ cup
½ stick = 4 tablespoons = ¼ cup
¼ stick = 2 tablespoons = 1/8 cup
