It is rubbed with a secret mix shared below, resulting in an effortlessly tender yet straightforward dish to make for friends and family to enjoy.
Ingredients:
Meat Rub
BBQ Sauce
Directions:
Prepare all the needed ingredients.
In a small mixing bowl, combine 3 tbsp of brown sugar, 2 tsp of mustard powder, 1 tbsp of paprika powder, 1 tsp of garlic powder, 2 tbsp of onion powder, and 1 tsp of cumin powder.
Pour the rub mixture on top of the pork and rub all over. Make sure that all sides are well seasoned and marinated.
Place the seasoned and marinated pork in a slow cooker and pour over 1 cup of beer or apple cider/apple juice. Let the pork cook on low for 10 hours until the pork is tender and easy enough to shred.
Optional: To brown in the oven, preheat the oven to 350F. Transfer the pork from the slow cooker into a roasting pan. Save the liquid.
Next, drizzle some pork juice on top of the pork and roast the pork for 20 minutes. When done, carefully remove it from the oven, cut a thick layer of fat off the top, and discard it.
Pour ¼ cup pork juice from the slow cooker on top of the pork and roast for another 15 mins. When the pork is ready and tender, shred it using 2 forks.
For the BBQ sauce, in a saucepan, combine 3 cups of ketchup, 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, 1 cup of water, 4 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce, 3 tbsp of molasses, 4 tsp of mustard, 3 tsp of garlic, 2/3 cup brown sugar, 2 tsp salt, and 2 tsp black pepper.
Mix and heat all the ingredients together until well incorporated. Then, add in a scoop of the pork juice. To combine, stir everything together.
When the sauce is done, pour it over the shredded pork and mix well.
