Ingredients:

  • 1 lb beef tenderloin or flank steak, sliced against the grain
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Directions:

Step 1

Put the chopped beef in a large bowl, and add 1/4 cup cornstarch and 1/2 tsp baking soda. Mix it well, making sure the meat is coated well. After this, fry each side for three minutes. Set them aside. Next, in the same pan, add the minced garlic and minced ginger. Saute them until fragrant, then add 1/3 cup of water, 1/4 cup of low-sodium soy sauce, 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, and 1/4 tsp ground black pepper. Mix well until combined, then simmer for five minutes.

Step 2

After five minutes, add the meat back to the pan, mix, and simmer for five minutes to let the flavors infused with the meat. Once done, add the chopped green onions and mix. Garnish with some toasted sesame seeds and serve.
