One of my all-time favorite pastries is an old-fashioned custard pie! Recently, I’ve been trying to find the perfect recipe I can use to bake one at home. Lucky enough, I stumbled upon this very easy and simple tutorial by Amy Lynn’s Kitchen on YouTube. It was very tasty and her tips were really helpful, now I can make my own custard pie easily.

Ingredients:

  • 2½ cups of whole milk, scalded
  • 4 pieces of eggs, beaten
  • ¾ cup of sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 9 inches unbaked, deep dish, pie shell

Directions:

Step 1

To scald the milk, pour 2½ cups of whole milk in a saucepan, then place it on a stove over medium heat, and stir it frequently. When bubbles start to form at the edge of the pan and the milk gives off steam, remove the pan from the heat. Set it aside and let it cool down a bit while preparing other ingredients. Grab a mixing bowl, add in the eggs, and beat them. Then add in the sugar, salt, and vanilla, whisk them together until well combined. Slowly pour in the scalded milk while consistently whisking. Keep whisking until well combined.

Step 2

To prevent the edges of the pie shell from getting too dark, you can place and scrunch a sheet of aluminum foil around the edge. But, if the crust is not getting dark enough for you, you can remove the foil during the last 10 to 15 minutes of baking. Pour the mixture into the pie shell and bake it in a preheated oven at 400 degrees for about 40 to 50 minutes. After baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack, then serve.
