Last week, I was craving potatoes and cheese. I looked all over the internet for any recipe that I can do, I wanted something tasty but easy to do. That was when I stumbled upon this tutorial on Potato Dauphinoise by RecipeTin Eats on YouTube, I was surprised to find out that such a complicated-looking dish can be done so easily and quickly. Almost immediately after watching it, I ran to the nearest grocery store and bought all the ingredients I’ll be needing. I’m not even halfway to the process of cooking but I already want to eat it, it looked that good. However, it wouldn’t compare to how delicious it tasted after cooking, not enough words can describe it so just try and see for yourself.

Ingredients:

  • 1.2kg / 2.4 lbs Potatoes
  • 30g / 2 tbsp Butter, unsalted
  • 2 cloves Garlic, finely minced
  • 1/2 cup Cream, heavy or thickened
  • 1 tsp Thyme leaves, fresh or 3/4 tsp dried
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • Black pepper
  • 75g / 2.5 oz Gruyere cheese or other melting cheese, sliced
  • 3/4 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded

Directions:

Step 1:

Place your saucepan in medium heat then melt your butter and add the minced garlic. Use some of the garlic butter to grease the muffin tin. In the remaining mixture add your cream and season with salt and pepper.

Step 2:

Peel the potatoes then cut thinly, assemble and stack neatly in the muffin tin. Drizzle it with some cream sauce, put sliced cheese on top before drizzling the rest of the sauce, and sprinkle some thyme.

Step 3:

In a pre-heated 350 degrees oven, bake the potatoes loosely covered with tin foil for 40 minutes. Take it out of the oven, sprinkle more cheese then pop it back inside. After letting it bake for 10 minutes, garnish with some more thyme then serve.
